This abandoned house exhibits a variety of construction methods and materials. We found a couple of abandoned houses in this small northern New Mexico town that exhibited one bad construction technique - walls constructed by erecting wood logs (like a palisade), then plastering over them with adobe mud. Not only does this not adequately support the surfacing mud, but it seems guaranteed to create a termite problem. The horizontal roof beams - the ends visible here - are called vigas.
