Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Bombay Hook wildlife refuge in Smyrna, Delaware. My wife and go here often, as there is an abundance of wildlife and scenery, and it is ever changing.

Time

This particular shot, which I definitely count as one of my best, this shot was taken at midafternoon. This little fox wanders the road through the reserve everyday while on the hunt for food. It is wary, but not scared of humans, so getting the shot was not difficult.

Lighting

It was a sunny day, so the sunlight really brought the color in it's fur.

Equipment

I used my trusty Nikon d5200 with a tamron 150 to 600 mm zoomed out to 600mm. I knelt down and leaned on the bumper of our truck for stability

Inspiration

I love wildlife, which is evident by the photos I share. Up until this particular trip, I had never photographed a fox. So to say this was an exciting moment would be understatement.

Editing

Very little, I liked the look of the photo right out of the camera. Other than cropping, I really didn't need to do anything more

In my camera bag

Most days I carry my d5200 with my tamron zoom lens. I also keep a nikon 85 mm portrait which I try in different situations just to experiment. I have a nikon d3400 body in my bag as well for back up and a nikon 18 to 55 mm kit lens. I carry a manfrotto travel tripod in the back of the truck, but shoot mostly by hand.

Feedback

Just be observant, dont assume that because nothing is happening, something won't happen. I got this shot, and many others at the end of our trip. I was getting ready to pack things up when the little fox came along. You never what might be coming up the road????
