Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken in my back yard. I was out photographing butterflies when this little creature came along

Time

It was mid afternoon, probably about 2 in the afternoon. That seems to be the best time for photographing the butterflies I had been trying to capture. I was standing on a 12 foot ladder looking down on the lower lims of our mimosa tree, this seems to be the best spot for shots like these. I heard what sounded like a wasp behind me and to my right. My first thought was to get down off the ladder. Instead, I turned around and looked and saw this hummingbird moth

Lighting

Though it was, midday, the mimosa tree was shaded by other taller trees in the back yard

Equipment

This shot was taken with a Nikon D5200 with a Nikkor 55-300mm Zoom lens. Hand held while standing on a 12 foot ladder.

Inspiration

I had never seen one of these creatures before and was very curious about what it was. My original intent was to photograph Tiger Swallowtails, the Hummingbird moth was sort of a bonus

Editing

Very little, I try to keep my photos as close to how I see them. Kind of boring, I know

In my camera bag

Nikon D5200, Nikon D3400 as a backup Nikon 85mm prime lens Nikon 18 to 55mm lens nikon 55 to 300mm lens Tamron 150 to 600mm zoom Manfrotto travel tripod

Feedback

Just be patient really, in my case anyway, it tends to be the things you're not looking for that turn out to be the most interesting.
