Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture while sailing the Beagle Channel in Ushuaia, in the Argentinian Patagonia, the weather wasn't the best to sail and we couldn't do the whole trip, it was too windy and they cut the trip short. This is the Les Eclaireurs lighthouse it is known to the Argentines as the Lighthouse at the End of the World (Faro del fin del mundo), although that name is misleading. The lighthouse is often confused with the San Juan de Salvamento lighthouse on the east coast of the remote Isla de los Estados, made famous by Jules Verne in the novel The Lighthouse at the End of the World, which is actually much further east.

Time

This picture was taken on the 17th of December 2018 around 10:00 am, I stood outside of the catamaran while we were sailing, I had to ask for permission to stay out but it was worth it.

Lighting

Since the weather wasn't the best, it was cloudy and very windy I took advantage of that to make the scene look more dramatic, the rough sea hitting the rocks.

Equipment

This was taken with a Canon 650D (Rebel T4i) with a 50mm EF lens, f8 and 1/400.

Inspiration

I love landscapes with dramatic scenes, this was the picture that I had on my mind while we were sailing through the Beagle Channel, I only took a couple because it was too windy and the sea was really rough, I loved it!! I've been sailing since I was little so I don't have problems with rough sea.

Editing

Yes, I like to add a lot of contrast to my pictures, specially the ones in black and white to lift textures and of course turning it black and white, other than that is a simple edit, I have a couple of presets that I use as a base to simplify my post processing, mostly lowering highlights and whites.

In my camera bag

Lately in my bag I have my camera Canon 650D (Rebel T4i) with a Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM and a extra battery, since mainly i shoot street photography I like to get close to the subject, sometimes I shoot from the hip in order to hide the fact that I'm taking a picture, but sometimes I get close and talk to them after I take the picture and show it to them.

Feedback

The advice I can give others is: be prepare to throw your plan away, I went on this trip with an idea on my mind and the weather changed really fast and I had to make a whole new plan on the spot, my approach was totally different to the one I had the day before. Life is unpredictable, always be ready to change.
