Location
A small studio set up in Chicago IL with a model from Minnesota by a photographer (me lol) from Pennsylvania.Time
She had been modeling for hours and i suggested a break... Mid-afternoon we started back up and wanted to keep it light and a bit more fun. And this is when i got to see some genuine emotion from her.Lighting
Sometimes less is more. One single deep parabolic umbrella was used on this set.Equipment
Hand held Canon 5ds (the best high res work horse in my arsonal) and a 70-200 2.4 lens and the parabolic umbrellaInspiration
Honestly i wanted to work with professional Models so she could teach me on how to direct non-professional models. The win win here was i get great shots while learning a bit about their profession as well... and believe me, what they do is NOT easy. Lots believe all you have to do is be beautiful of naked. this couldn't be further from the truth.Editing
I used Lightroom for a slight crop ane white balance adjustment as well as brought out the intricate detail of her garment. then into Portrait Pro for some skin smoothing and Eye touch upIn my camera bag
I have a WIDE assortment in my bag at ALL times... 8mm all the way to 400! 3 speedlights, trgars, IR remotes, and supporting cables and spare batteries... and of course my trusted 5Ds 50.6 megapixel full frame,Feedback
I have learned knowing the mechanics of photography when shooting portraits in not even half the battle. Gaining trust through professional behaviour is a must, being down to earth and just real with them is super important. You need real emotion and some sort of connection with your model if you are going to get the emotion that puts the shot above the others.
