Captured this with a sound trigger. I was forced to trigger the camera rather than the prefered speed lights due to the light bulb was illuminated and would have been over exposed in a long exposure. I used a dimmer to achieve the correct balance of light between speed lights and bulb light.
I mounted the socket to a black piece of acrylic for the black mirror effect. I shot the bulb with a BB gun.
I used my Canon 5Ds, 180mm Canon macro, and the MIOPS sound trigger

Behind The Lens

Location
I took this in my home studio in Pennsylvania USA
Time
evening
Lighting
I used two speed lights and the ambient light of the light bulb itself. The speed lights were placed behind the bulb (one on each side) and behind a sheet of diffuser film. The diffuser film was cut away in a arch shape around the bulb. This outlined the bulb but yet keeping the glass clear and not full of glare. The bulb was dimmed with a Lutron dimmer to get the right balance of light with the flashes.
Equipment
I used am Canon 5Ds, i believe i used my Canon 180mm macro but it could have been my 70-200 2.8. Pluto sound trigger was used to fire my 2 canon speed lights. I used a dimmer to control the bulbs luminosity and a BB gun to explode the bulb. The mirror effect was done with a sheet of black acrylic. I mounted the socket to it and achieved the correct reflection.
Inspiration
The love of high speed photography
Editing
I adjusted the clarity and cropped slightly. Very little editing.. that's generally my style. I hate that everyone is a photographer with the Auto setting and Photoshop to make the photo appear ANY way they want... I do my work behind the camera not at my computer.
In my camera bag
Too much to mention
