Although Auckland is over 2500km from the bush fires in Australia, on the 5th of January at 3pm in the afternoon this is exactly what it looked like out of my bedroom window. The whole sky turned orange. This is exactly how it looked, I have not modified the photo in terms of colour.

I live in Australia on the East Coast and heard about the smoke from the terrible bushfires reaching NZ; my apologies. Your amazing photo shows the awful effects.
