Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my home studio, meaning a room in my house...nothing fancy by any means! There is this small window in the entry- way and the sunlight from that window is what you see in this photo.

Time

It was taken around 2:00 pm. I have a small window in the entry-way of my home. The light that comes through that window is just beautiful and it doesn't last long! It really was the timing and we happened to be close to where the sunlight was streaming through. I turned off the studio lighting and just used the natural sunlight.

Lighting

I am still learning about photography and lighting. I do prefer natural light overall. You can't imitate the effect it gives, and I think that is the main reason I love natural light. Sometimes it gives off a glow that is just stunning.

Equipment

My Nikon and I believe I was using a tripod at this time. No flash or additional lighting. Once I saw the sunlight streaming through, I turned off all other lighting I was using.

Inspiration

This is my beautiful granddaughter. She loves modeling for me and the creative process of it all. She was so natural in this pose, the was not fussing about and it all seemed to just come together.

Editing

Camera Raw editing in Photoshop to smooth it out a bit, but that was all.

In my camera bag

I'm still a rookie, so I haven't collected a lot of equipment yet! My Nikon, Canon and various lenses. And tripod depending on what type of photography I am doing. I don't have a lot to choose from until I invest more!

Feedback

Be open to just letting things happen. I have found that some things cannot be forced with photography, they just come about as they should. This was the case in this photo. Sometimes the natural light is what truly sets the mood.
