Location
This photo was taken near an urban fox den in Brighton Ontario, underneath a lawn bowling club's shed. Due to its proximity to people passing by,the kits weren't too concerned by me.Time
This was taken just before sunset, around June so maybe 7:30-8pmLighting
The lighting wasn't really ideal since the sun had mostly set, and I mostly had to bump it up in post.Equipment
K3II with 300mm da* lens, handheld from a car window.Inspiration
I grew up in Texas, where foxes aren't common, so once I moved to Ontario I was determined to see some fox kits. My friend let me know if this spot, it just took a few drives to the location before they finally showed up.Editing
I process all my images in primarily Adobe camera Raw, utilizing gradient effects, color correction/manipulation and exposure correction. In my camera bag
My 300mm, my 100mm, my 1.4x TC and my 16-85mm. Never know what to expect so I cover the full range.Feedback
Drive around looking for foxes around sunrise and sunset. They like to make dens on higher ground, often near a water source. Sheds, decks and porches are common, but sometimes it's just a hole in the ground too. Once you have a location, observe it, and figure out a way to position yourself (either by car or well hidden otherwise) near the den BEFORE they emerge that day. If you arrive when they are already out, it's likely they will be startled and go back inside.
