Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken near Spencer, In. The field was part of a campground.

Time

This was shot mid afternoon. The sky was overcast and very pleasant.

Lighting

Overcast skies made the lighting nice and even. The lighting is all natural with no modifiers.

Equipment

I was using my Nikon D5500 with a 85mm prime lens. The camera was hand held.

Inspiration

It was part of a senior portrait session. My client had showed me a few examples of what she wanted and this was one of the results.

Editing

For post editing, I used Photoshop Elements. I adjusted the lighting a little bit. There is very minimal editing done on this.

In my camera bag

I carry my Nikon D5500. I also carry a 24-120mm f/4.8-5.6, 85mm f/1.8 and 18-55mm kit lens. I also catty extra batteries, a charger . I also have a Nikon SB 600 speed light.. I carry a remote cord, several extra memory cards and AA batteries.

Feedback

Keep things simple. For portraits, I like to keep my ISO between 100-400. I typically use a wide aperture setting to soften the background.. I use aperture priority mode. I also take multiples of each pose at slightly different apertures to select the best exposure.
