The Pont du Gard is an ancient Roman aqueduct bridge built in the first century AD to carry water over 50 km to the Roman colony of Nemausus. It crosses the Gardon River near the town of Vers-Pont-du-Gard in southern France. The Pont du Gard is the highest of all Roman aqueduct bridges, and one of the best preserved.

I love this shot because there are virtually no people there. It was packed when I visited but still got some good shots. Did they tell you the height difference from one end to the other is 2 inches.

We went at about 4pm, most tourists were gone, only the locals who come over to swim were there with a bottle of wine, bread and some cheese. A lovely mood and no crowd looking at and visiting the bridge, those people see it every day 😄 2 inches difference!! amazing construction, and so sturdy too!!

Good shot, Christina. Thank you for sharing the history as well. I believe that the stones were cut that precisely that no mortar was required. Those Romans, Greeks and Egyptians knew how to build !
