Location
Standing parallel to the top of the waterfall, I shot down into the canyon, keeping the actual falls to the left edge of the frame.Time
Late afternoon sun in the autumn so the light was low.Lighting
The bright low sunlight caused a washout of the colors on the opposite canyon wall. I would have lost the detail in the foreground if I'd have tried to bring the far wall colors in.Equipment
Shot with my Canon G12. Hand held.Inspiration
Usually waterfalls are photographed from the front. I liked the idea of shooting it in almost a profile view with the old tree snag aligned to it.Editing
There was a touch of color enhancement in post processing. In my camera bag
Not much as I don't like to carry a camera bag that's heavy when I am hiking.Feedback
Pay attention to natural light, angel and brightness, to bring out the best colors and shadow shapes.
