Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Madrid in the Plaza España very close to the Opera Metro Station and obviously very close to the Opera Theatre. This is a very popular spot in Madrid City and, consequently, it is crowded most of the day.

Time

This photo was taking in the afternoon of a warm day almost getting into the evening.

Lighting

This was a sunny day and clear in Madrid without clouds.

Equipment

It was very strange but on this particular evening I had not my camera with me, I saw this couple dancing the Tango and I said to me I have to take this photo, then borrowed my wife's camera. This is a camera that has an LCD screen but not a viewfinder a thing that I am not very much accustomed to use and since I was zooming in I needed to stabilize the image, for this I walked to the closest lighting pole and then supported the camera to avoid any shake and took the photo. No flash was used.

Inspiration

This couple dancing the Tango was really inspiring or at least for me. Their dance was excellent but above all there was a strong, fantastic link between they both and what they were dancing was really tango, the popular dance that has it origines in Argentina and Uruguay. They danced the whole song and the people around stopped to watch them doing their art, some of the watchers were like astonished with the movements of the dancing couple.

Editing

Yes I did some post processing in Photoshop. I increased a little the contrast and the darks of the image but not too much, I wanted to keep some blur of the feet of the dancers to keep the sense of movement.

In my camera bag

As said the camera used was not mine, but mi wife's a Canon PowerShot SX530HS, which I borrow when I have not other alternatives, a good camera but obviously I prefer my Canon 7D which is the camera that I almost always have with me. The Canon 7D that I have normally in my bag is soon to be 10 years old. I have a 28-135 mm 1:3.5-5.6 EF IS lens, I also have in my bag a 18-55 mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS II lens and a 55-250 mm 1:4-5.6 IS EF-S., Canon Remote Control, extra batteries, CF cards, extension tubes and an adapter for the 28-135 mm lens to invert it and use it as a macro lens, and several magnifiers for the macros too. I have several tripods, one monopod and many filters.

Feedback

Yes, obviously the first advice would be, "do not go out without your camera" or you will have to borrow from your wife's, like me for this particular photo. My second advice would be do not loose the opportunity to take photos whatever they might be. Performers on the streets of the big cities, either in USA or in Europa or wherever, are very good subjects and they may give you the possibilities of very good images, I have had the opportunity to take photos of dancers, singers, musicians or acrobats, and I think they are very interesting images.
