Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Green Barn in Isanti, MN.

Time

It was right around sunset that this photo was taken.

Lighting

We showed up early to try to take full advantage of golden hour, but dark clouds were on the horizon blocking the golden light.

Equipment

I was using a Canon 80D, and a manual 100mm f/2.0 film lens.

Inspiration

I loved how the sunflowers looked swaying in the breeze, and I wanted to try out my 100mm lens since I had just gotten an adapter for it.

Editing

The lens turned out to be a bit hazy (it is an old film lens, after all), so I did some basic Lightroom edits; dehaze, contrast, highlights and shadows. A little bit of sharpening and noise reduction.

In my camera bag

I mainly just have my camera and a few different (prime) lenses. Some lens wipes, a neutral grey reference card, my square card reader, extra batteries and SD cards. And because I feel like I might lose them otherwise, a handful of baby headbands.

Feedback

Dusk or a cloudy moment in sunset would be a great time to capture a moment like this. The barest hint of light on its back, with darkness in front; and stand to the side to capture both aspects.
