I took it in Barcelona, SpainTime
I took it in the afternoon of a sunny warm day. My wife and I were just arrived from USA, but being our first time in Barcelona we did not want to lose any minute and instead of resting we decided to go for a walk. Then I saw this very impressive cast iron door heavily decorated which had a set of gargoyles hanging from the lintel. I decided to take the photo trying to understand the meaning of these figures. I believe they were set there to keep unwanted visits at bay.Lighting
As said, it was in the afternoon, the door and the gargoyles were in the shade and I did not want to use the flash, because I was afraid the image was going to be flattened, so I use Aperture Priority, set up a wide aperture and since the shuttle speed was going to be very low I held the camera firmly and took the photo. Actually I took many photos from different positions.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 7D with the Canon EF 28-135mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS lens, no flash, no tripod.Inspiration
I like gargoyles and these were really interesting, I would say scaring. I know gargoyles were set in the past in churches and castles to scare the people around them with different purposes. Whenever I see one I always try to take pictures, but most of the times they are installed high on roofs or balconies since some of them are used to hide pipe drains.Editing
Yes, I did very little corrections with Photoshop and made the photo black and white since originally it was taken in colors. In my camera bag
I have a Canon EOS 7D camera, with the following Canon lenses: EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, a 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6, a EFS 24mm f/2.8 STM and a EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6. Many SD Memory Cards, several batteries, remote shutter release, several filters and an old tripod.Feedback
I am not very good giving advices to other photographers. The only thing that I would like to say to others is: "Never stop learning, know your equipment, look to the work of other photographers, be original and be creative. And a last humble advice: keep shooting as much as you can.
