The Thread Waisted Wasp is a rather large solitary wasp, often seen feeding busily from flowers. The abdomen is orange or rusty-red in front and black at the end. Like all solitary wasps, they are not aggressive. Nests are dug in sandy soils. For reproduction they paralyses caterpillars, place them into the hole in the ground, place their eggs in them, and then close the hole. The larvae feed on the still alive caterpillar.
