Location
Reiman Gardens on the Iowa State University campus in Ames, Iowa, was the location for the full family portion of our Cousin Camp. My granddaughter, "Sugar" and I had so much fun playing photographer and model that day! There are so many beautiful places to use as backgrounds I couldn't really choose a favorite but the lily pond proved to be a perfect backdrop to bring out her beautiful green eyes.Time
Getting a late start to our day turned out to be a plus for this wanna be photographer. This picture was taken at 12:30 and the sun was shining straight down on her through a layer of clouds.Lighting
I am pretty much a point n shoot photographer and as much as I would like to pretend to know what I am doing, I don't. I am playing and learning about lighting. I have had my fair share of glare, shadows and in between. This picture was taken just afternoon on an overcast day . I used the auto setting and my new camera did the work with the light! I did know enough to know a flash would ruin things.Equipment
This photograph was taken with a Nikon Coolpix B600. No other equipment.Inspiration
I have 5 grandchildren, but only 1 granddaughter. We were having a Cousin Camp for the kids and we started the day with their parents and them with a trip to Reiman Gardens. "Sugar" had dressed up a little with the hopes of playing "model and photographer" with me. She played and posed her way through the gardens but as the humidity curled her hair and added a glow to her skin, she just became more beautiful to me. The coolness of the lily pond was just the perfect backdrop, it's calmness was such a contradiction to the 11 year old, cartwheeling girl of 5 minutes before! Personal note: I don't know who chose this photo for this honor but I have to thank you. It means more than you can imagine for both of us.Editing
There was no post-processing to this photograph. In my camera bag
My camera bag is a thermal lunch bag I received as a freebie for signing up to something at a fair. In my camera bag is always my Nikon Coolpix B600; a Lenspen and ALWAYS a spare battery!Feedback
The only advice I can offer to others is to have fun !
