Location
Hamilton, Montana, It's a small lake behind the Bitter Root Inn.Time
About 5 p.m. We were exploring the hotel's property when we found this little lake. The fluffy clouds in the sky, reflected on the pound was just too good to pass up. I've always liked the colors in this image.Lighting
It was taken in July. The sun was still a bit high in the sky. It definitely wasn't taken during the "golden hour". Nonetheless it still made a very nice picture.Equipment
Nikon D3100, 18-55mm kit lens, hand held. I rarely use a tripod. I find them cumbersome, so most of my shooting is done hand held.Inspiration
When I think I can get a good reflection shot, I'll take it. The clouds on the water, and the mixture of colors captured my attention.Editing
Only a bit of cropping. In my camera bag
I have a Nikon D5200, Tamron 18-270 (soon to be replaced with a Tamron 18-400mm), a 35mm lens and a 30-85mm Nikon lens, manual focus. There are spare batteries, SD cards, lens cleaning tissue and clothes. There's also an electronic, remote shutter release, and a small flashlight.Feedback
I'm not a believer in shooting only in the "golden hours." If I see something that I think will make a good picture I'll shoot it right then. Get the image when you can. If you have the time to return later and get shots later in the day or early in the morning go for it. But don't forgo a shot because the lighting isn't perfect.
