Location
The event was the 2019 Deuce Days, on July 21st. The location was the Belleville Street side of the Victoria Inner Harbour. My back would have been to the Legislative Building.Time
9:01am Local time (PDT), I'd been shooting the event for an hour-and-twenty minutes at this point. I shot for another hour after this, then it just got too crowded to get decent shots.Lighting
Lighting was standard summer sun, no flash or reflectors used.Equipment
Canon 650D (T4i) hand-held with a 28mm-200mm lens. Acording to metadata I shot it at: ISO 100 1/160 f/7.1 28mmInspiration
The length of the red/orange flames on the blue background. The high contrast mixed perfectly with the long nose of the front end of the car, and the shine of the paint.Editing
I used the Viveza 2 filter in Photoshop to increase saturation and strengthen structure. I usually use photoshop for minor tweaks and to add my watermark.In my camera bag
My bag has enough room for my standard body (Canon T4i) and lens (28mm-200mm) plus a 50mm, my flash (430EX II Speedlite or Neewer NW-670), two spare camera batteries and a few AA batteries for the flash, and a holder of extra SD cards. The outer pocket holds about 20-30 business cards.Feedback
For car shows and the like, get there early. Cary only the equipment that you need, to stay maneuverable. Be extra-respectful of the owners of the vehicles and the event staff, they may become clients. Be respectful of the crowds and tourists too, they want to see these machines as much as you do. If you get your distant/full vehicle shots early before the people start to gather, you can go back and get detailed shots late when the throng of humans makes it too difficult to get a good shot while standing back from the car. If the crowds start building up, move to a different area.
