Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo with my drone from the Israeli side of the dead sea. The island is made of salt, interestingly the dead sea must have once contained life judging by the dead tree in frame.

Time

I was on a busy 4 day roadtrip of Israel and had very little time by the dead sea. It was mid afternoon so I took a top-down shot trying to negate any harsh sunflare on the water which seemed to work a treat!

Lighting

Because it was so bright, through shooting in RAW I did manage to capture a lot of details which I could bring out in post production.

Equipment

I used a Mavic Pro. I have no lense filters so I have to be smart about my angles and timing.

Inspiration

I'd seen other people's captures of this island. I researched it's location and made sure I photographed this one of a kind island for myself!

Editing

I certainly did. I underexposed the image and what in RAW so I had a lot of details and colours to bring out in the final image. I also tried to add some luminous qualities to the final image so it pops more. I believe the colours compliment each other very well.

In my camera bag

When traveling it's usually just my Mavic Pro, my canon 5D mk iii and my Tamron 17-85mm lense.

Feedback

Getting rid of glare is easiest when you shoot directly down with the drone. Try different compositions, heights and then you can experiment more with angles.
