Location
It was taken at the San Joaquin Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary, Irvine, CA.Time
It was around 9 am.Lighting
It could not have been more perfect. There was just enough light to light up the carp face in the mouth of the pelican without post-processing work.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 7D Mark II and an 100-400 Canon L II lens.Inspiration
I spent a lot of time trying to catch a pelican with a tiny fish in its mouth. I was very lucky to finally get one with a carp.Editing
Very little.In my camera bag
For wildlife, I use the 7D Mark II and the 100-400 lens; for everything else, I take a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV with a 24-105 and either a 16-35 or 70-200. I travel light - Canon EOS M.Feedback
When one does not get to setup one’s own shot, one is at the mercy of what is going on around him. This one was photographed during an once in a lifetime opportunity. I was lucky. Keep clicking.
