2019 - Project 52 - "Week 28" - Sunday, July 14, 2019
StreetARToronto (StART) is a program designed specifically for streets and public spaces. Initiated in 2012 as an integral part of the City’s Graffiti Management Plan. StART has been successful in reducing graffiti vandalism and replacing it with vibrant, colourful, community-engaged street art.
StART recruited 23 artists to be on a roster for projects around the city. Each mural serves its respective neighbourhood in a different way. Each pillar is kind of like a personification for a certain historical aspect of the area. The collection in Corktown, was created by Toronto-based artist ELISA MONREAL (artist moniker Shalak Attack). Ms. Monreal has painted every aspect of the concrete overpass, which cuts through one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods. This is one of her works.
