Location
This photo was taken at a working horse ranch near Westcliffe, Colorado. I was on a photography workshop featuring horses and barns.Time
Sometimes it’s worth getting up before the crack of dawn. This photo was shot just as the sun was rising above the Sangres De Cristo Mountain ridge.Lighting
The silhouettes of the horses against the sunrise was accomplished by getting on the ground in the snow to be able to capture the horses legs for separation.Equipment
I’ve always used Canon cameras. This was handheld using a semi wide angle lens.Inspiration
There is nothing more magical than a beautiful sunrise. Having clouds available is a plus for giving depth and character to a landscape.Editing
Very minimal post-processing was done with this photo. It was a spectacular sky. I probably did a little push on low lights and of course always a little sharpening. In my camera bag
Canon products are my go to for many years. Currently it’s the Rebel T7i, and a 24-105mm lens. A lightweight carbon tripod is always available. I’ve cut back a lot on extra equipment due to weight and accessibility and make due with what I grab.Feedback
It’s always beneficial to push yourself to get out early in the morning. The lighting is magical.
