Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken from my side of our back yard fence. Our neighbours have since moved away and Satch has since passed on but he was a big goofy loveable dog and I couldn't resist taking that shot. He was checking out my three dogs at the time who were in our yard playing, seeming to say: 'Can I come over?'Time
Around mid to late afternoon on July 10, 2014Lighting
I had just received a 50mm f/1.8 for my growing collection of lenses and was shooting in natural light without flash. Satch was shaded somewhat by a maple tree and all I had to do was aim and shoot.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 50mm f/1.8, ISO 125 @ 1/40th of a second. I don't think I was using a tripod.Inspiration
I can only say it was spontaneous as I had been wandering around the yard looking for something to find, something interesting to shoot. When Satch popped up it was perfect.Editing
I used Lightroom to remove a few blemishes and some nasty looking eye crud. I shoot everything in colour but when I looked at the shot as a B&W it looked kind of cool. I cropped it so he was more centered in the frame and that's about it.In my camera bag
I use the Canon 5D Mark II and usually pack my Canon 85mm f/1.4, Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro, and a Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 which is a beast but a great lense. I also have available my 2-Canon 600 EX-RT remote flashes and a Manfrotto tripod.Feedback
I was fortunate to be in the right place with my camera ready when the opportunity presented itself. I can't begin to count the number of missed photo opportunities from not having my gear at the ready. But that's often what happens as I'm just a photography hobbyist. I shoot for my own fun when I'm able and love to learn as I grow. I'm nearly retired so I can see myself getting totally immersed in creating images whenever the urge bites. I'm currently learning the more complicated PhotoShop with all this down time from the Covid-19 shutdown. Just keep creating and most of all, have fun!
