Behind The Lens

Location

As a soon to be Engineer I took this in front of Walla Walla University. I wanted a senior picture that was more me than a studio shot that the school commonly offers.

Time

I took this in the afternoon about an hour before sunset. It was between rain storms so we had a very small window in which to take it in.

Lighting

The lighting at this time of day with this building is perfect for these. If you try to take this picture at another time the lighting is harsh.

Equipment

I shot this with my trusty Canon 5D Mark II and a 50mm f1.8 lens. Tripod mounted for the self portrait.

Inspiration

I new I wanted something that was truly me for my graduation picture. I got my favorite shirt my usual pens and went for it.

Editing

I shoot raw and process from there. Honestly there doesn't need to be much post processing for a picture like this.

In my camera bag

Well I took my Canon which is what I do for portraits or when I know I will be shooting. For everyday going everywhere I always take my Ricoh GRII. I love them both for different reasons

Feedback

Keep playing around to find the picture you are after. I frequently find myself asking why am I attracted to this particular place. That question gives me clarity and permission to focus on that. Sometimes you have to keep taking pictures to find what you want out of that space.
