Location
This photo was taken along the Susquehanna River in Plymouth, PA. I am a self taught Photographer, the model is someone I had just met at the time but didn't know very well. I used this time as practice to feel comfortable working with and posing models I wasn't too familiar with to get me out of my comfort zone. This was my first shoot that I worked together with someone else to have an idea come to life.Time
This was taken in the summer on June 9th and it was around 9:00pm at night. I remember scheduling the shoot earlier, but something came up in the models schedule which pushed back our shoot time. I remember being nervous that the sun was setting, but proud that I was able to fit in most of the poses and shots that I had wanted.Lighting
I wanted to shoot just before sunset to get nice lighting. We started the shoot in a forest like scene, where I was looking for pockets of light but moved out into the open river bank for brighter light as the sun was going down.Equipment
This photo was shot on a Sony A7III with a 24mm lens.Inspiration
The location was what really inspired me, I stumbled upon it while exploring the town and felt strongly about needing to shoot there. Next I knew I wanted the model styled in a natural or earthy way. I passed on my ideas to the model and we agreed on some of the details, most of the styling I trusted with the model.Editing
I had to bump up the exposure and I went in through out the photo to dodge and burn all the little areas. In my camera bag
I don't like to carry a lot with me. It all depends on the shoot. I always have a 50mm1.8 in my Sony A7III. When doing portraits I also like to carry an 85mm1.8 and a wide lens, which I've used a few and switch up. This photo I used a 24mm 1.4.Feedback
Always have a camera with you, and always be shooting. Practice by asking strangers if you can take their photo and step a little outside your comfort zone. Don't not take the shot or give up because the shoot isn't perfect.
