Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on Mainland Orkney in August 2018. This was my last eveny on the island. The Ring of Brodgar is one of many sites dating back to Neolithic. Very popular with tourists. So quiet and peaceful when I took this picture. Almost a mystic experience.

Time

I was driving back from the coast having spent the afternoon watching the wildlife. When I drove past the site I decided to take advantage of the last minutes of sunset and I took this picture.

Lighting

The warm colours of a summer sunset with the reflections on the loch in the backgroung, the dark silhouettes of the standing stones. The sunset magic at its best.

Equipment

I used my Canon EOS 200D on a tripod, with EF-S18-55mm

Inspiration

There is something very special about watching the sunset on the site, like transporting yourself into a distant past. Being in the same position as the people who biult the site

Editing

I wanted to add a wee bit of light on the foreground and to bring out the warmth of the colours, as I felt them. The trick was to not go overboard in doing so.

In my camera bag

My canon EOS 200d with the 18-55 and 90-300 lenses, cleaning equipment, flash, compact tripod.

Feedback

In Scotland weather can change very quickly, 4 seasons in one day something. You have to be both patient and reactive to capture the picture you want. The most important thing is to roam responsibly: stay on the paths, stay behind the fences, they're here for a reason.
