Exploring Otago you can't beat the Taieri Gorge Train which passes by the tiny Sutton Train Station. Sutton sits on the Taieri River, just below the Strath Taieri Plain, and to the east of the mighty Rock and Pillar Range. I trekked past fascinating schist rock formations to Sutton Lake, New Zealand's only inland Salt Lake which has water about half as salty as seawater. I was totally thrilled to capture the rocks reflecting in the clear water and the wildlife living on and around the lake.
