This photo was taken in the garden of the Apartment Building I was living in at Clontarf, Brisbane, QLD, Australia.Time
I took this photo at 12.31pm in the middle of the day. The sunlight was hitting the female golden orb spider and web and it caught my eye as she continued to build her web with silken thread by tapping her back leg against her body. She was one of nature's monsters and a fabulous creation built to trap and eat her prey.Lighting
With the sunlight hitting the web and highlighting the hairs on her legs the Golden Orb Spider looked mysterious and in some ways alluring though built to kill. I was also able to manipulate my position to create the darker blue/green background which made her stand out in the web more clearly.Equipment
This spider was captured with a Canon PowerShot SX530 HS which I held in my hands, 1/160 sec. f/6.5 215 mm, ISO500.Inspiration
I am fascinated by all creatures yet spiders are so not on my list of loves and I do have a slight fear. However, they also intrigue me with their web building skills and their hunting nature. This female orb spider is much larger than her tiny mate and yet still attracts him in. She is very beautiful in her own right and I was drawn to watching her building her web in the sunlight. I liked her colour, the patterns on her body and the way the hairs on her legs were shining in the sunlight.Editing
No this photo was not post processed - it is exactly as captured. In my camera bag
I always carry my Canon camera and at the moment it is a Powershot SX60HS together with a monopod, spare batteries, sim card. I use this camera as I find it difficult to carry heavy equipment, cameras and lens.Feedback
Always be on the lookout for the subjects that surround you, the simple things, flowers, insects, birds and nature generally that lives with us. You don't have to go far to get a shot. My garden is where I capture all manner of things and when I am out and about I am always looking for that something different in the way light falls on a subject or something sitting on a leaf or window. Nature provides us with so many photographic opportunities, both large and small. I would say don't ignore the subjects you don't like. Spiders while not a love are intriguing in their form and habits.
