This photo was taken on a school event here in Bohol, Philippines. I love attending my nephews' and nieces' event for a chance to practice.Time
This was taken at night inside a coliseum with bright lights all around. In events like this you always look for that one amazing candid shot of the performers... so you move a lot and shoot a lot too.Lighting
Since this event are staged, the lighting will be enough to shoot a decent portrait. With sufficient effects like fogging, smoke and diffused light in different colors ... all you need is to be at a right place at a right time.Equipment
I am using my Canon EOS 600D ... hand held because you need to move a lot.Inspiration
My subject is very young (around 12 years old) ... probably not used to be wearing make up and performing in front of a large crowd. But that night she was very confident and smiles a lot.Editing
The only post-processing I did here is blurring the background. In my camera bag
In an event like this I normally bring my main camera Canon EOS 600D and a back up camera Fujifilm s4500. Since it is a staged event, no filters and no tripod too since I will be moving in, out, side, up and down the stage depending on the performance.Feedback
This kind of photography is done mostly by others in a "shoot here, shoot there and edit later" attitude for you might miss a crucial move or crucial lighting in an instant. But this picture was taken at the back stage after her performance where she felt relieve and confident of what she did. True there are a lot of great opportunity during the performance but the drama of it all is on the backstage before and after the show. This is where you will get all the emotions.
