Meet the "Rocket Thrower", designed by Donald De Lue for the 1964 World’s Fair. He stands in Corona Park in Queens, New York, near New York City. The 43-foot high bronze statue is of a man throwing a rocket into space with one hand, and grabbing a constellation of stars with the other in an attempt to conquer space. The stars he’s grabbing finished with 23.5-carat gold leaf.
The Fair celebrated the beginning of the space age with its theme "Peace Through Understanding and "Man's Achievements on a Shrinking Globe in an Expanding Universe". The globe in the distance is the Unisphere. My New York City collection has a closeup of the Unisphere and more information on it.

Thank you, Frank. This was an impressive park, with the Unisphere, this statue and another World's Fair event center that was closed so I don't know what was in there.
