The Unisphere is a stainless steel structure of the globe in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in the borough of Queens, New York City. It’s the Earth in miniature, but still HUGE--140 feet high and 120 feet in diameter. It was commissioned as the theme symbol of the 1964–1965 New York World's Fair and is truly magnificent, celebrating the beginning of the space age. The World's Fair’s theme was "Peace Through Understanding" and the Unisphere represents global interdependence and "Man's Achievements on a Shrinking Globe in an Expanding Universe".

It surprises me that the iconic structures from the NY Worlds Fair look so well kept. Nice shot.

I read that a big refurbishment project was finished recently. It's certainly impressive!
