Location
I shot this photo in Monument Valley during a day long family outing from Phoenix.Time
Between 3.00-5.30 p.m.Lighting
As the sun was dipping towards west, the slanting rays brought out the beautiful texture of the rough terrain. Heavy clouds gathering added more impact.Equipment
Camera was Nikon D3300 - an entry level DSLR but very easy to use, uncomplicated controls and hence my favorite. Lens was Sigma 18-250mm with most suitable focal lengths covering all situations in travel photography. Used circular polarizer to bring out the clouds. This filter proved very effective because the sun was on my left with 90 degrees to the axis of the camera+lens.Inspiration
I am a traveller from India and found Arizona and Utah incredible for landscapes due to unpolluted environment (unlike India) and as a result the cloud shapes are stunning.Editing
Just minor adjustments in Photoshop. I am not an expert in post-processing and manage with basic corrections. I believe in getting the image right in camera itself rather than spend hours before the computer. In my camera bag
My Nikon D3300, Sigma 18-250mm lens, Tamron 10-20mm super wide-angle lens, CPL filters for both lenses and 5 memory cards.Feedback
I am a beginner. What advice can I give? Just appreciate mother nature and capture the best she presents. Even if we get 80% of her beauty, that will do justice to her. Love nature and it will love you back by presenting its best. Those who are in US (Arizona, Utah, Nevada), consider yourself very lucky if you are a photographer and if you love shooting landscapes
