Behind The Lens

Location

This photo is of the John C. Roebling Bridge as it enters Cincinnati, Ohio. It was taken from across the Ohio River on the river bank of Covington, Kentucky.

Time

I decided to go down after dark and shoot some shots of the city from across the river.

Lighting

I was just looking to capture some images of the city at night using the available light.

Equipment

This was shot on a tripod with a Nikon D810 and a Tamron 70 - 200 lens and a shutter release.

Inspiration

I really liked the ferris wheel behind the bridge. The lights and patterns of the ferris wheel were constantly changing. I took quite a few images before getting this one.

Editing

Post processing this image was very simple. I set the white and black points, adjusted the shadows and highlights a little and added a little contrast.

In my camera bag

I usually carry a Nikon D810, a Tamron 70 - 200, a flash and a small diffuser and reflector. I may add a 24 - 70 or a 50mm. Sometimes I'll carry a D7000 with a 70 - 300 if I think I'll need more telephoto length.

Feedback

A tripod and a shutter release are a must. Don't forget to turn off any vibration compensation. Take several shots. Have fun.
