Location
I met with model @roberta_ms5 in the studio to play with light and shadow. My studio is basically an empty office floor with all its charm and lack thereof. For this shoot, it was a great place.Time
We met in the studio and were therefore independent of ambient light and the time of the day.Lighting
We had one flash behind the model, close to a white background, creating the soft white spot on the background. A second flash (a compact flash) was used in combination with a light blaster and a metal gobo, placed to the right of the camera, i.e. the model is looking right at it in this photo. The light-blaster in this case creates nothing but a single fine line of light. As no further light source was used, she remains black where the light of the light blaster does not reach her, making her black silhouette visible in front of the partially lit background.Equipment
I used a Nikon D800 with a 85 mm lens. Further a radiotrigger, a studioflash, a white background, a light blaster with a Godox TT600 compact flash and a metal gobo. A 50 mm Canon lens was attached to the light blaster.Inspiration
This shoot is part of a series where I play with light and shadow. I was also inspired by photos from Lindsay Adler (lindsayadlerphotography.com) and George Meyer (http://georgemayerstudio.com).Editing
Only minor post processing in camera raw was necessary (exposure, clarity, skin, cropping, contrast). In my camera bag
My equipment depends a lot n the shoot. In the studio, I like my Nikon D800 with a 85 mm lens. In my bag I usually also carry batteries, triggers, cables and model releases.Feedback
Just play with the light and balance the light sources. Don't forget to keep the light blaster in focus. Be nice to your model and have fun!
