It was a dark and clear night, exactly one day after the new moon. So, it was very dark in Big Sur. The stars were aligned (quite literally). Just prior to leaving our lodgings, we had a very close encounter with a roaring cougar, with the big cat being about 10 feet from us. Needless to say, we were a bit skittish about hiking around Big Sur after that encounter in the pitch black. Nonetheless, we pressed on!

The light pollution was at a minimum, with the exception of the occasional car, making its way up the winding coastline, or boat lighting the horizon, far out at sea. Yet, there was a very distinctive green glow; similar to the Northern lights.

This image is a single shot, with minor adjustments in Lightroom and Photoshop. It was also my first time attempting star reduction in PS.
