This sculpture of General William Tecumseh Sherman with an allegorical female figure Victory, is by American sculptor Augustus St. Gaudens who completed it in 1903. Originally the work was placed at the main entrance to Central Park but later moved in 1913 to Army Plaza on the Eastern side of the park. In 2015 major renovations were completed after applying new gold leaf and tinted wax coating to emphasize the sculptural detail. Beautiful and fluent, this is really worth visiting!
