Behind The Lens
Location
The photo was taken in the historical center of the former Russian capital. "Julian Back's House" on Kirochnaya Street in St. Petersburg is known for its unusual spatial solutions. The house was built in 1905 by the architect Boris Girshovich.Time
It was the evening of a July day. But the daylight hours at this time in the north are still quite long.Lighting
The diffused light passes through the windows from the narrow courtyard and creates a somewhat mysterious atmosphere. Shadows hide traces of decay. The house built by order of a successful engineer and editor of a major newspaper had seen a lot in its lifetime, but now its corridors and staircases were full of echoing silence.Equipment
This photo was shot a long time ago on a Canon 350D. The lens was, as I remember, an EF-S 17-85mm f / 4-5.6 USM. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
This photo is one of the thousands of shots taken while wandering around the city. The house is well known and appeared in movies. Its main architectural features are not visible in this photo. But I chose this shot for the way the light draws the space.Editing
In this particular case, I used just the curves. In my camera bag
I had my camera always with me. When I’m traveling or walking in the means to take some photos, I have two lenses (zoom and wide-angle), sometimes two cameras, three lenses, a tripod, and, of course, spare batteries.Feedback
What can I advise here? Sometimes you need to plan and travel far. But it's equally important to walk and be interested in the place where do you live.
