Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the observation deck on the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, I'm Dubai. It was actually taken with my iPhone 5 with a wide angle Olloclip Lens. iPhoneography is also a hobby of mine and I enjoy using my phone as much as my DSLR, especially when travelling.

Time

A few weeks before my trip to Dubai Iade sure to book the excursion up the Burj Khalifa I'm advance to get a good time slot. This was one of the latest slots available at about 5pm when the sun was nice and low.

Lighting

Because the sun was low, the tones were already so beautiful. The desert in the background also had a part, reflecting red tones of light over the city.

Equipment

Just my good ol' iPhone 5 and wide angle Olloclip Lens. Edited very lightly in Snapseed.

Inspiration

I've always loved looking at photos of city scales taken with wide angle lenses were it appears that you can see the curvature of the earth. I think I captured that here well.

Editing

I may have used a 10% HDR filter in Snapseed.

In my camera bag

I normally lug around my tripod (when I know there will be a need), Canon 650D, 18-55 EFS, 50mm f1.8, reflector (when I'm shooting fashion outdoors), my iPhone5 and 3-in-1 Olloclip lens kit. I also have a studio kit with 3 flash heads and backdrops for when I'm shooting in studio.

Feedback

Always try take travel pics outdoors when the sun is low. Light is everything and nothing beats the soft tones and long shadows of an early sunrise or dusk.
