Even as a landscape photographer, waking up before dawn is extremely challenging for me. Close friends tend to laugh at my inability to wake up early.

On a recent trip to Northern Idaho, I was an hours drive from Yellowstone National Park, and had a location in mind from a previous trip that I had been wanting to shoot for sunrise.

Setting my alarm for 5am, knowing there would be an hour and then a hike after that was seriously an internal struggle. When I arrived there was thick steam and fog rising from the thermal pools. The warmth of the light contrasted with the cold pockets of air trapped in the valleys.
