Behind The Lens
Location
This photograph was taken at the start of a long day of branding calves. We depend on our horses to gather the cattle. The calves are then roped so they can be branded, earmarked and vaccinated. The calves recover from the activity in no time. They are put back with the cows so they can "mother up". They are then put out to pasture to graze and grow up disease free.Time
5:00 amLighting
We start the day before the sun is up. The weather can get very hot, so the earlier we start, the easier it is on the cattle. The sun rising behind the mounted cowboy created a beautiful silhouette.Equipment
Canon EOS 70D, EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 lens, hand held.Inspiration
My inspiration comes from my lifestyle. I am driven to capture moments in time.Editing
Very little was required in post processing. The decision was whether to make it a complete silhouette or let a little detail come out.In my camera bag
Canon 70D, 18-135mm lens, 55-250mm lens.Feedback
Action at branding is fast moving and I help on the ground. Whatever lens I choose to start with, I use throughout the day. There is little time to change out your equipment. It creates a challenge to use one lens and see what you can come up with!
