Wanted to do somthing diferent fro the whole Lens Ball craze but was still fascinanted with the concept. I thought; "no one is shooting with marbles... let's see what happens."
I was very happy and surprised with the results.
I find it amazing, something so small and glossed over as a marble can open to a new world of creativity.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this at a local Holiday Park here in Indianapolis, IN. It's a 94-acre beauty. A forest, nature center, areas for families. It one of the oldest here in the state and one of my favorite spots. https://www.hollidaypark.org/ you can read more about it here. This spot specifically is part of a fire pit. It's surrounded by flat rocks, and trees off in thee distance.

Time

At sunset during golden hour.

Lighting

The area opens up in a way that the sun has a direct line here and makes everything sparkle. So everything here was natural sunlight.

Equipment

I shoot with a Canon EOS T6i. Believe it or not this was shot with the EF-S 18-55mm Kit lens from my old T3i. Never go anywhere any where without it. :) I shoot raw.

Inspiration

This was a result of me being mildly annoyed with the "Lens Ball". A large super clear glass ball that when used correctly makes very impressive and striking images. I couldn't afford one at the time and was getting tired of seeing the same composition over and over again on Instagram. So to stretch my creativity I thought: "What if I could do the same thing with a marble? No one shoots marbles!" I wasn't sure it was going to work but... It did. After a few more shoots this shot was born. As a Nature and Macro Photographer I was looking for a way to keep things fresh. The thought with this shot here was capture the trees in the marble, make them stand out. Everything else just came together then and there. Funny enough this is one of the few shots I've printed framed and hung on the wall.

Editing

Not much was done here. I shot this in RAW, however, the lighting and composition in camera was in monochrome. So when I reviewed the shot at home I was trying to keep the post-processing simple, trying to preserve the 'wonder' of this scene.

In my camera bag

My camera, 2 lenses, a battery, sd cards, a cloth, small band-aid box, flash light, a set of Blue Nebula Dice, and when I get more, marbles. (I've since dropped all 3 of these marbles.)

Feedback

I try to capture something from a POV that no one really thinks of. Get on your hands and knees and work for it. If everyone is looking at the big mountain...follow the light and you might notice a beautiful flower bathed in a perfect spotlight.(It happens) Learn to respect and be patient with Light. The sun is your friend, sometimes, a very loud friend, but still a good thing to have around. Just have fun.
