Behind The Lens

Location

I took this in my bedroom at my parents' house. It was a photoshoot day turned sleepover with my bestfriend. It's our favorite thing to do when we hangout.

Time

This was late in the afternoon, the sun was lying quite low and it seeps through my curtains, creating a soft glow. It's my favorite time of day to take pictures.

Lighting

I really wanted the light to cast a subtle shadow on one side of her face, so her white shirt and the white sheets helped tone the shadows down. And also having her lie down helped the light distribute a little more evenly.

Equipment

I used my Canon 700D, my first ever camera that I got 4 years ago for photography class. This camera has taught me more lessons than I could learn in an actual class and up to this day it still teaches me new things.

Inspiration

When I was starting, I did a lot of avant garde shoots as side projects, so when my bestfriend made a comment about her not looking like herself in the photos that I've taken of her, I decided we should do a very natural shoot - no props or makeup. My bestfriend is beautiful and I wanted her to feel just that, so I'm glad this photo of her just showcases her beauty even more.

Editing

Very minimal, just gave it a subtle glow by lowering the contrast and upping the shadows a little.

In my camera bag

I pretty much only have my camera, my charger and 2 batteries. If I'm shooting a 6 hour event, I bring an extra memory card and my kit lens/wide lens if it's a small location. (I mainly shoot with 50mm)

Feedback

I guess make sure to diffuse your light and make sure you tell your friends they're beautiful (or in this case, show them) ?
