Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was captured on the lawn of my workplace. I rarely went to office on Sundays and on one such occasion, I had carried my camera along.

Time

After I walked around the lawn that morning, I finally settled near a tree to rest until my friends caught up with me. If I remember correctly, it was captured between 7 AM - 9 AM.

Lighting

While I was seated under a tree, I looked around for opportunities to shoot. They say that we often miss to notice those closest to us. As I looked around, I noticed this little guy on the blade of a grass. The lighting was perfect, beautiful soft light that clearly showed the vivid colors on the bug. I couldn't ask for more.

Equipment

I always use a Canon 7D with a variety of lenses based on occasion. To capture this image, I had a Canon 55-250 IS lens with Raynox 250 mounted on Canon 7D camera body. No tripod or flash was used.

Inspiration

As humans, we are materialistic in life, often ignoring smallest of creations around us that gives immense joy and pleasure. To set perspective, the bug in the photograph measured hardly about half an inch. So small yet mesmerizing.

Editing

I usually don't perform much post-processing on macro photographs. I correct exposures, balance contrast and colors before I convert RAW into JPEG.

In my camera bag

I am a Canon guy. I would carry gears based on occasions. Generally, I carry Canon 7D body with Canon L 70-200 mm Telephoto lense and a 50 mm Prime lens. If occasion calls for it, I might carry a Sigma 10-20 Wide and Sigma 24-70 mm for close range photography.

Feedback

Patience is the key. And macro photography tests your patience, every time you are out there. Also if possible, travel light to avoid exhaustion. Only carry a few magic lenses and if possible, a macro extension or designated macro lens. Leave the rest of the gear, including your impatience at home.
