Location
This photo is taken in the French region called the Camargue, where these semi-wild horses roam. They are the only horses that are strong enough to run through relatively deep water without getting a hear-attack.Time
This photo was taken just before the sun set, to get the optimal light. To do that you need to ignore being eaten alive by thousands of mosquitoes. And you have to stand for hours in muddy water. But in the end it is worth it.Lighting
The cloudy sky and low sun gave the golden hue to the white horses. These lighting conditions are not always available, so luck plays a part as well as knowing when and where the sun will set and then being prepared to wait.Equipment
I used Nikon D810 and a zoom lens 28-300. Nothing elseInspiration
The horse, the elegance of the horses galloping through the waterEditing
The photo was taken as a RAW file, so yes. I modified the exposure, the white and black as well as a bit of added contrast. In my camera bag
I carry two cameras, the Nikon D850 and either the Nikon Z7-II or D500, depending what I am going to be taking photos of. My main lenses are 200-500 for wildlife photography, 28-300 and 24-200 for "anything can happen" photography. Also always with me is a High density filter and a tripod.Feedback
To capture photos of these beautiful animals it is best to go with a group who knows the rangers that look after these horses and can take you to where the horses are.
