Behind The Lens
Location
This shot was taken at a session in my home. It was shot in one our bedrooms on a bed and with natural window light.Time
The shot was taken at around 1.30pm in the day time. The light is great then through this window as it is not direct but bounces of exterior white walls and is very soft and diffused.Lighting
Yes I set out to use the natural light as I wanted a soft high key type of effect. The natural light coming through the window is just great in this room.Equipment
Olympus OMD EM1 Mk2 with Olympus 45mm portrait lens. Thus is my go to lens for portraits as it is a 2.8 lens and produces a beautiful milky bokeh.Inspiration
I decided to collaborate with Natasha on a beauty shoot as my regular makeup artist wanted some shots fro her portfolio. Her Agency also cooperated so the three of us agreed to do a TFP shoot so everyone including the Agency could benefit from the resulting images.Editing
Starting in Camera Raw and slightly adjust white and blacks and contrast with a medium curve. Also set the look on Adobe Portrait. Then into PScc where I just sharpened and did a few minor spot heals on pimples. In my camera bag
It depends what I and shooting and where but always with an Olympus OMD EM1 Mk2 body. Then in my studio with will usually be the Olympus 45mm for headshot and portraits. Studio lighting is continuous in the form of a variety of soft boxes and a small LED lights for back light. If I am travelling I carry my Olympus 12-100mm pro and my Olympus 100-400mm pro for wildlife and birds. I carry ND and PL filters for landscape and small lights and reflectors for macro work. From macro I always haven my Olympus 60mm macro lens in the bag.Feedback
Hire a great pro model who knows how to pose. Use an Agency or put out a call on social media in your local area. Most will do a TFP (time for print) deal. Use a pro hair and makeup artist who will also usually do a TFP deal to build their portfolio. Carefully choose the wardrobe to suit the theme of the shoot. Find an indoor location where natural light is being bounced into the room preferably fo eternal white walls. If you don't have one at home scout for locations elsewhere - all friends family and as a last resort you can hire a motel room that's suitable.
