Location
Tomaree Headland, NSW, Australia. It’s a steep 25 minute walk to track the summit but we’ll worth it for the 360° views.Time
This was shot at sunset. It can get a bit busy on weekends so it’s best to reach the summit a little bit earlier to secure a spot.Lighting
All natural lighting. I used a 6 stop ND filter and left the shutter open a bit longer in order to flatten out the sea. Half a second to be exact.Equipment
I shot this on an Olympus OMD Em1 mark ii with a 12-40mm 2.8 pro lens. I used my tiny Sirui tripod as the Olympus system’s stabilisation is so good.Inspiration
The views. I returned about a year later to reshoot this. I actually prefer the updated version as it includes some foreground to give a bit of context.Editing
A tiny bit of colour grading and a nudge of the debate slider, if I recall correctly. In my camera bag
The micro four thirds system has pros and cons. The biggest pro for me is the lightweight, high quality lenses. I’ve usually got a 75mm 1.8, 12-40mm f2.8, and a 7.5mm 2.0 in my bag. Remember that in full frame terms these focal lengths are doubled. With those three lenses I can carry my bag around all day with a small tripod and a DJI mini 2 (and controller) without any issues.Feedback
Take your time setting up the shot and return to the same spot a few months later if possible. It’s helpful to try and improve on what you’ve captured before.
