Behind The Lens

Location

I shot this from the window of the Boeing 747 I was in, as we were departing Chicago, Illinois for my next stop.

Time

A bit after dusk, maybe 0700hrs.

Lighting

Only the light from the sky. It was a foggy morning so the sky was overcast and made for a dramatic photo.

Equipment

I used my Nikon Coolpix AW100, the best adventure camera out there! It was my faithful sidekick for many years.

Inspiration

Cityscapes have always intrigued me so I was drawn to what I saw below me from the airplane.

Editing

Originally made the shot in color but switched to black and white because I like the old-fashioned look of it.

In my camera bag

I’m very minimalistic when it comes to photography. As few items as I can use the better because I appreciate the challenge of creating an interesting image without a lot of assistance from things other than my camera and the subject itself. Therefore, what’s in my camera bag is generally only my camera and its various lenses, flashes, cleaning supplies, etc.

Feedback

I feel like people shy away from taking photos out the window of airliners. Maybe because you get so many wing shots;) but don’t be afraid to grab the opportunity for a good picture wherever you find yourself.
