Kinda amazing what you can do with something so common.
This one is with a colored glass ball with alot of imperfections (bubbles) in it that cause extra reflections. Looks a bit like galaxies, hence the title.

Location
This was taken at home, more specifically inside the drum of a broken washing machine that I dismantled for this purpose. This image is a top-view of a blue glass ball inside the drum.Time
Any time, no daylight was used in this image.Lighting
I placed several continuous light sources around the drum and wrapped the drum itself in a thin white cloth. No speed-lights or other lights were used. The lights from the "galaxy's" inside the ball come from the outside lights shining through the holes of the drum. The "galaxy's" are air bubbles and other imperfections in the glass ball that catch the light.Equipment
I used an ultra wide lens (sigma 8-16) on a crop-factor Nikon D7000. There is limited space inside a drum, so I had to be real close to the object and still have a lot of the background in view. The camera was mounted on a horizontal tripod. The drum itself was placed on some supports so I could also put a light under it. A tablet was connected to the camera to view the images and change settings.Inspiration
I was inspired by an image that was taken from inside a working machine, and at that time I had a broken down machine I wanted to get rid of. So I took it apart and started to try out some different ideas.Editing
Some regular adjustments were done in Lightroom, and a border and logo were added in Photoshop. The lights in this setup gave the image all it needed, no extra work was necessary.In my camera bag
At the time this image was created, I always had a sigma 17-50 f2.8 and sigma 8-16 in the bag with my Nikon D7000. Currently I have a Nikon Z6II (since a few weeks) with nikkor 24-120 f4 and nikkor 14-30 f4.Feedback
I did a whole series with a washing-drum and still have a lot left to try when I find another drum. With some creativity this is definitely worth the effort to try it for yourself. Tip: also try out some smoke and lasers inside the drum, it creates some very unique effects without the need of editing. Any old machine will do for this, and as a bonus, you not only have an interesting subject for photography, but you can also recycle the old drum into a small table for the living-room (with a glass plate on top, like I did) or a storage box for the kids toys or other things. Even a fire pit for outside is an option ;)
