Behind The Lens

Location

The shot taken on my trip to Goa-India which is an important state having vast majority of Indian butterflies seen in the Western Ghats.

Time

The shot was taken in the late morning while I was having a trip around my camp in the Western Ghats to see the beauty of the area. Here nature was at its best in all its forms including many species of butterflies. butterflies. It was 10:30 in the morning of 3-11-2017 having very clear weather.

Lighting

The diffused lighting for this shot was perfect with an of focus green background to enhance the orange color of the butterfly. To keep the background out of focus I went much closer to the butterfly taking care not to disturb him.

Equipment

The shot was taken with Canon EOS 1200 D camera and Canon EF-S 55-250 mm lens,Handheld. f/6.3,1/320 sec,ISO 200, focal length 250 mm,I compensated -o.3 steps to bring out delicate velvety pattern of the wings.

Inspiration

As a nature lover loving nature in all its forms which includes butterflies also and I shoot many butterflies in their natural actions. The butterflies are one of the charming creation of nature I always in love with butterflies for their various sizes, color combinations, activities and so on with inspire me all the time.To add to this I am having a Butterfly Breeding Project in my backyard since last 6 yrs.in which more than 800 butterflies have taken birth many times in front of my eyes.I have many opportunities to shoot their complete life cycle in this project.

Editing

I usually post process the shots to bring out their real magic of colors, body features etc.As many times the shot had to be taken in available odd environment which needs to be corrected in post processing. For this shot I had to crop the image to bring out the velvety texture of the wings and enhanced saturation.

In my camera bag

I,now a days, usually carry Canon EOS 1200 D camera with the Tamron 18-400 mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD attached.Previously I was using Canon EF-S 55-250 mm lens but now it has been replaced by Tamron 18-400 which is all in one lens.I also keep some SD cards.

Feedback

It is always necessary to keep an eye around for any thing surprising and not seen usually. One must be very quick but also cautious for not to disturb the object which is very sensitive to movements around. Here the long focal length lens is very useful but one must be careful to handle it as the weight of such lens and may require a tripod of monopod.
